Glenstriven and Knockdow Estate

Head for Gourock (26 miles west of Glasgow on the M8 and A8) where regular ferry services (Calmac and Western) make the 20 minute crossing to Dunoon. From Dunoon, drive south and west on the A815 until approximately two miles after rounding Toward (pronounced as in ?Howard?) - the road turn sharp right. Dramatic Glen Striven lies before you and after the scenic 6 mile loch-side drive up the single track road (with passing places), the road ends at the gates to the Glenstriven Estate.

Although Glenstriven revels in it's own privacy and seclusion, it is less than half an hour's drive from Dunoon, where ferry links enable visits to Edinburgh, Glasgow and the Ayrshire coast and the Isles of Bute and Arran. Drive north and west and around Loch Fyne towards Inveraray, Oban and Glencoe or south to Kintyre. Dunoon itself has a good range of shops and supermarkets, excellent restaurants, a swimming pool and the usual seaside attractions.

And, as you would expect in Scotland, golf is never far away, with good courses at Dunoon (Cowal Golf Club), Innellan, Strone and Blairmore.

For more local information of all types including visitor attractions, travel details and lots of pictures see Argyll Online - The Internet Guide to Argyll.

Once you've discovered the Glenstriven Estate we're sure you'll return - like so many of our guests - year after year. We pride ourselves on high standards, a friendly welcome and attention to detail. Little things like providing bed linen and towels, even soap and loo rolls. And with oil, electricity and logs included, there are no irritating extras building up during your stay.
